Impact of Your Contribution
In 2010, Alternatives' Safehouse provided 184 women and 160 children with 5,831 nights of shelter. Staff assisted 1,377 families in finding other safe shelter.
97% of these households had no income.
Alternatives Safehouse has 21 beds and 3 cribs. The house was built in 1950s as a 4plex and is about 2000 square feet, the size of a regular family home.
Imagine 450 guests in your home throughout the year.
Each week we:
• Spend $357 on bus tokens
• Use 12-16 gallons of milk
• Use 14-18 dozen eggs
• Use 11 gallons of laundry detergent
Every month:
We use 88,000 gallons of water for showers, laundry, dishes, bathroom usage, and cleaning for 21 women and several children.
All services are offered at no cost to the client.
All Safehouse residents, including children, receive both group and individual counseling.
Alternatives' Community Outreach and Support Services, (COSS), provides community education presentations, technical assistance to schools, social service agencies, hospitals and churches.
In 2010, Alternatives' staff made 257 presentations reaching 3,001 community members.
